The Chairman of the specialized section of pubs of the Chamber of the food industry of Jalisco (CIAJ), Miguel Mendoza Aguirre, said the upcoming heat makes the best season for the sale of ice cream and popsicles.


In an interview, he pointed out that more than 1,000 gelato shops of Jalisco are making their sale of the year in these months, as ice cream sales are up by 60 percent during hot season while popsicles demand grows up to 100 per cent.

"It is an industry thriving in Jalisco, with much presence in the market because once we have been pioneers in ice cream and popsicles," said Mendoza Aguirre.

He added that a few years ago, the per capita consumption of snow in the State was 2.5 liters a year and now exceed three liters.

He said that ice cream is a food that is considered as a dessert and sale intensifies in hot season. "Most are micro-enterprises who sell these products and generate more than five thousand jobs to Jalisco", he said.

He added that the increased demand in heat are fruit popsicles, but also ice cream has increased as it enters a new culture of consumption, after which this product is located in self-service stores and craft ice-cream continues with much presence.
